2015 New Millennium Quilters’ Guild Retreat

2015 Guild Retreat

Ten happy New Millennium Quilters gathered at Hidden Acres Retreat Centre just north of Shakespeare, Ontario on Tuesday April 7 to Friday 10th. The first stop was E & E’s Fabric Story in Newton, Ontario. At noon each camper received a gift of beautiful snow died fabric created by Toni this past winter. We responded by thanking her with a gift bag of quilting items and a secret little black box. I am sure you could hear the laughter in Walkerton when the box was opened. [That secret remains with the campers…. eh Girls]

Wednesday morning we awoke to freezing rain covering all the window and vehicles. By afternoon the weather settled and ten happy quilters headed to Heart N Home Creations in New Hamburg and The Quilt Place in Shakespeare. On Thursday, the group visited Ye Olde Fabric Shoppe, Fabricland and the Jamone Store in Stratford. (Now the secret is out we don’t sew 100% of the time as all quilter’s need to replenish their stash of fabrics.)

Toni demonstrated a simple technique of paper piecing by Anita Solomon Grossman. Members worked in pairs to complete 2 blocks. Marion Brown won the complete set of 8 ½” blocks. The home cooked meals made by Amanda were excellent and welcomed by all. Each day ended with a snack and decaf coffee around the big tables.

The week went by so very quickly. It was a fun, four days of sewing, laughter and shared tips and tricks. We all hated to see our time end and are already counting the sleeps to next year’s retreat in April 2016.
